The appellation to the east of Saint-Émilion, dominated by a limestone plateau and bordered by the Barbanne stream, features a wide range of terroirs. Merlot is the dominant grape variety, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The appellation includes Saint-Émilion and eight neighboring villages: Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse, Saint-Hippolyte, Saint-Laurent-des-Combes, Saint-Pey-d'Armens, Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes, Saint-Sulpice-de-Faleyrens, Vignonet, and part of Libourne.
