Separated from Pomerol by the Barbanne stream, the Lalande-de-Pomerol terroir consists of alluvial terraces and includes the communes of Lalande-de-Pomerol and Néac. Lalande-de-Pomerol features flat landscapes, while Néac is more rugged, especially to the east. Merlot, prevalent in the Libournais region, produces wines that are enjoyable when young. However, Lalande-de-Pomerol wines vary in style: some are fruity and meant for early consumption, while others, more robust and age-worthy, are closer to Pomerol.
